Ivy League Alumni Interview

DBHH Interview

Whats up? Let everyone know who you are and what you do?

Well we're a rap trio that goes by the name Ivy League Alumni,, but most people call us & our team "The League". We're artists, yes, but most importantly we're entertainers. The three off us all have different sounds & approaches to music & that seems to be what draws most people to us. You get a little bit of everything on every single record we put out & that is what sets us apart from anyone or anything that's out in the market today.

When did you start creating and how would describe your sound?

We've all been making music for as long as we can remember but things really didn't start to move until we all came together & formed The League. We're not big on comparisons but if you had to compare us to anyone I'd say we were "Slaughterhouse meets Outkast with Run DMC cool & G-Unit NY attitude". We all have something different to bring to the table & we feel like that's what's so fascinating about us. You never know who's gonna come with what but you do know that it's gonna be good.

Talk about the NYC influence on the last few years of hip hop as a whole as well as how it influenced you personally.

Everybody draws influence from NY whether they wanna admit it or not. NY is the swag capital of the world! There are a TON of artists out there who aren't from NY but still have a NY swag. We're just THAT cool. Crazy swag mixed with that east coast lyricism, its a perfect combination. We wouldn't really say NYC influences us in any way because that's something ingrained in us. If anything I'd say we draw our influences from other places like down south hip hop or west coast hip hop…

Nick Carter Green

DBHH Interview

Whats up NCG? Let everyone know who you are and what you do?

-Wassup to everyone and DBHH. I’m Nick Carter Green and I’m a hip hop artist out of Chicago, Illinois.

Why did you choose to use your government name as opposed to some rap moniker?

-I didn’t feel like I had to create a new character so to speak in order to be an artist. I wanted to be as real as possible and show who I was. My name is both a combination of my mom and my dad’s name and I wanted people to know where I came from.

Talk about the Chi Town influence on the last 8 years of hip hop as a whole as well as how it influenced you personally

-Chicago has really showed that we have true musical geniuses and legends being created here. Kanye, Lupe, Common, Twista, to name a few. It’s showed that everything Chicago does is classic and that has definitely influenced me. They all sort of pioneered something in their own way. It’s given me the drive and a sense of pride as an up and coming artist.

Having some predecessors such as a Kanye West, a Twista and many others, do you feel pressure representing your city?

-Absolutely not because I feel I offer the same genius that was brought before me. Pressure only comes when you are scared that something might not happen, I don’t feel that I won’t be a success and join those in the ranks.

You recently won 1st place in the HipHopDx.com ‘Get Your Buzz Up’ Industry Showcase in Madison WI, explain your experience to our readers as well as how your performance was received by the locals.

-The experience was amazing. I sort of got lost in my performance as I…

Exclusive Interview With KALIBUR aka the "One Man Army"

DBHH Interview

1. Whats up Kalibur? Let everyone know who you are and what you do?

I'm KALIBUR aka the "One Man Army" from the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia). I'm called the "One Man Army" because I'm one of the FEW Artist who Covers ALL aspects of "Music Creation." I Write, Sing, Produce (Make Beats), Engineer, Mix, Master and Perform my OWN Music! You could lock me in a Studio ALONE... and I will Leave with a FINISHED Project.

2. When did you start creating and how would describe your sound?

I First Started Writing and Rapping when I was 12 Years Old, I was only in Middle School (Junior High). When I was 15 yrs old, I became Professionally Trained in Classical and Jazz Piano... this evolved into Composing and Producing my Own BEATS. When I turned 21 yrs old, I learned How to Engineer Audio, Mix and Master Sound in the Studio. I'm in my Mid-20's now so all that experience made my music more polished. I would describe my Sound as Aggressive, Smooth and yet, "Organic." My Music Flows "Organically" because ALL the Sounds are Coming from ONE Pulse...Mine. Most Artist have to BUY Beats, or PAY an Engineer to Perfect their Sound... with KALIBUR MUSIC, its not watered down or diluted…

'NYC Get Your Buzz Up Winner Sam Lachow'

What’s up Sam Lachow? Tell us about your movement.

Waddup! I am a producer, songwriter, rapper, videographer, director, and editor of video and music. I collaborate with a variety of musicians from all over the country to combine the different skill sets and talents of different artists into full-bodied projects. I just released my first solo project titled Brand New Bike, in which I produced all of the beats on the album using all live music with no samples.

That’s a unique approach for any hip hop artist. Can you talk a little more about that process?

This project is not just a collection of songs…it is a full and complete album. Each track sounds very different than the rest and has its own creative qualities. I produced every beat on the album using live music with no samples which gives the album it’s own unique sound. The musicians I used (trumpet players, piano players, singers, guitarists, etc.) are all extremely talented and they all have their own style. It is a hip hop album with influence from all types of genres and styles.

There are a lot of artist features on the album. How did you select who you would be working with?

I feature a wide variety of artists on this album, all of whom I have a ton of respect for. I did not look to feature anybody based on their buzz or fan base. I chose them because I am a fan of their work and because I enjoy working with them. I made sure to have a nice variety of styles…
